Step 2. Windows setup

Updated by kevin cardoen

SDW Insights Cloud uses the Snowflake data platform for data storage and management. To retrieve data from the SDW Insights Cloud into Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or other data analysis tools, we use the Snowflake ODBC driver. Below you can find instructions for how to install this driver.

We recommend completing the steps below together with an IT colleague, as you may need administrator rights to install the ODBC driver.

ODBC connector

  1. Download and install the ODBC drivers
    1. Win32 driver
    2. Win64 driver

We advise installing both the 32- and 64-bit drivers to ensure the data connection can be used within any application.

  1. Press the Windows start button and enter ‘ODBC’ to start the ODBC Data Source Administrator (32-bit or 64-bit) app.
  2. Click Add, and select the SnowflakeDSIIDriver.
  3. Click Finish.

  1. Copy and Paste the following 3 parameters. Click OK and again OK.

  • Data Source: SDWINSCLOUD
  • User: your personal ID
    • You can find your personal ID in the confirmation email you received after your Insights Cloud user was created.
    • The ID shown in the screenshot is only an example. Always use your own personal ID.
  • Server: sdworx-insights.snowflakecomputing.com
  • Tracing: 4 (This is optional)
  • Authenticator: externalbrowser

Normally, when you’ve installed the 32-bit and 64-bit version, both will be setup in the previous steps. If not, repeat the steps above for the other version.
